Wallet
vs
NHL-Tickets
Bernt Pölling-Vocke, bernty@gmx.com
The NHL is not only the best hockey league of (at least)
this planet but also the most demanding league when it comes to the wallet of the average
spectator. Team Marketing Report, a Chicago-based company,
analyzes the admission-prices of all major leagues of northern America on a year-by-year
basis and allowed me to use some of their information on my site. Many thanks to the windy
city...
In the following chart you will find the average ticket-price for every NHL-franchise. In addition to that
you will also find the Fan Cost Index (FCI, copyright by Team
Marketing Report) which is the sum of four average tickets, parking, four small
soft-drinks, two small beers, two programms, two caps and last but not least four hot dogs
(I would prefer nachos though, on the other hand nachos at most arenas do not live up to
even the lowest expectations but that is a different topic).
If you have a couple of NHL-games on your mind for your
upcoming vacation these numbers might be quiet shocking but they´re averages so that you
will also be able to find cheaper tickets available (in most cases). If you start to
wonder why all NHL-arenas seem to be rather full on TV it might be important to add that
most (about 70%) season-tickets are bought by corporations who can use them for
tax-write-offs again and lower the real price quiet a bit by doing so.
All numbers of the canadien franchises
have been converted to US-dollars for an easier comparison.
For further comparisons I will
publish new statistics every season. In order to compare today´s prices with the past you
will also find the figures of past seasons linked below the
following chart.
The "link to the team"
will deliver you to the arena-site on my homepage. If there is no link this means that I
will have to travel there or someone who already lives there (or has been there) needs to
invest some time into an article for my homepage. Many thanks to all of you who have
already done so and have made hockeyarenas.com the largest arena-guide on the internet!
If you wish to see how the NHL ranks
by comparison to the other major leagues in the US you can do so by clicking on the
following link where I have published a comparison of the NHL, NBA, NFL and
MLB-admission-costs dating back to 1994:
